Michael Ziga (b. 1993, USA) works using digital fabrication techniques to question humanity’s reliance on technology to better understand the devices that stimulate and expedite our lives. Future Fragments is a series of sculptures designed using 3D scans anonymously taken from The Metropolitan, Louvre, Uffizi, and Acropolis museums. The scans were digitally sliced, reconstructed, and output to create new sculptures from old, building the future from fragments of the past. Website: www.michaelziga.com
Artwork for the 2022 Darien Alumni Art Show, June 10th - 13th
Innerhalb der kiste [Berlin] (2019)
Oil and inkjet on canvas
21" x 19"
$2,500
Berlin: In German Innerhalb der kliste means Inside the box. Often when everyone else is trying to think “outside the box” the true outliers exist within the box.
Pide adam [Istanbul] (2021)
Oil and inkjet on canvas
21.5" x 23"
$1,900
Istanbul: Pide Adam translates in Turkish to Pita Man. This painting provokes questions about traditional wage laborers and their conditioning towards work. The smiling pita can be seen as a happy facade, while the white void behind represents the emptiness of a lifetime of working unappreciated. The pita serves as a metaphor for energy surrounded by the blue engines it fuels.
