Samantha Pensiero’s focuses on patterns paired with realistic imagery (i.e. bones, organs, animals, cells, etc.) and abstract proponents to create an overall image that grabs the viewer. The subject matter includes the body mixed with an abstract style. Common imagery in her work is skeletons, fish, organs, etc. Her most current work focuses on parts of the body becoming patterns paired with color shifts or “overlays” in geometric shapes. The work plays with the idea of making patterns out of elements that would usually not be considered “pretty” or commonly used in pattern making. Overall she tries to make the work seem playful because it includes what some say is “morbid” or “gross” subject matter.
